Training
Offical Warning: If you are of substantial build or have never walked further than the bus-stop like us, it's probably best that you see your GP before spending your cash on sports equipment instead of dvd's.
But take heart and get on yer bike because we are not slim-jim athletes either.

When you are training for Cycling it all comes down to this: Check out some Cycling Performance Tips here:

And here's a few hints and tips from us to get you in tip top condition.

Cadence - or spinning those feet

Use your gears to get the optimum cadence for your body and fitness - between 80-100 rpm. Studies on Russian cyclists found their optimum cadence is 92 rpm, which is about 3 spins every 2 seconds. Heaving on your pedals against a hard low gear will tire you out, and at the same time spinning your legs very fast in an easy high gear doesn't get you very far.

1. Moderate or Fat-Burning Training

Go for a medium distance ride, up to 1-2 hours keeping to your optimum cadence. Gentle exercise like this will burn off your fat reserves.

2. Distance or Stamina Training

Ride at a moderate pace for a longer time to build up your stamina. Just aim to complete the distance and don't worry about the time. One long ride a week mixed in with normal training will improve your overall stamina.

3. Speed Training

Only do this type of training if you want to push your limits. Do a short warm-up for up to 20 minutes then go ballistic up a hill or sprint along a flat, followed by easy riding until you recover. Do this again several times. Only do this type of training once a week mixed in with other normal riding.

4. Lots of Routes

Anyone who has ever done circuit training knows how you can get into a routine with excercising and what you can do or think you can do. So do different routes, and do them in different directions on different days. Do them as moderate rides or put them together as a long ride
